Award-winning interior design firm seeks a creative, talented and strategic Design Director to lead their design team. This position will be responsible for leading the continued growth of the studio. The ideal candidate will have a sophisticated design aesthetic and the proven ability to provide strong leadership, direction and mentoring.

  • Leading the design of projects, including programming client needs, conceptual and schematic design, design development, and management of budgets and schedules
  • Directing and reviewing the design narrative and design graphics for concept presentation materials
  • Participating in selection of hospitality furniture systems and specifications
  • Managing client expectations, team communication and consultant coordination
  • Overseeing quality control reviews for projects to confirm documents are meeting company standards
  • Attending and/or directing on-site meetings with owner, consultants and contractor inclusive of construction review and FF&E installation, as necessary
  • Overseeing design team in review furniture installation plans and shop drawings for content and accuracy and insuring that they are fully coordinated with all pertinent consultant drawings
  • Contributing to company initiatives and learning programs
  • Providing subordinates with ongoing feedback relevant to the creative caliber of design projects and opportunities for individual growth and development


  • Local travel will be required occasionally
  • Overtime will be required as needed

Required Skills / Qualifications:

  • 7-10 years of experience as an interior designer, focusing on hospitality and/or multi-family residential interiors
  • 3-5 years of experience in an interior design team management capacity
  • Strong conceptual design and space planning skills
  • Strong knowledge of the interior design process
  • Strong abilities in managing budgets, schedules and staffing
  • Strong leadership, organization, communication and relationship management skills
  • Knowledge of furniture, finishes, materials, color selections, and specifications
  • Knowledge of design, trends, construction methodology, materials application and manufacturer-supplier appropriateness
  • Advanced knowledge of building regulations and safety codes
  • Proficient with technical toolset (InDesign, AutoCAD or Revit, Sketchup)
  • Proven ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Strategic thinker and problem solver
  • Excels in a team environment
